PREPOSITION OF PLACE


THE PREPOSITIONS AT, ON, IN, AND BY 



AT
To show a specific place, location or position.
For example:

  • We are waiting at the bus stop. 
  • They met at the swimming pool.                                          
ON
To show position on a horizontal or vertical surface.

For example:

The cat is sitting on my laptop.

  • There are some pictures on the wall.
  • The books are on the table.
We also use on to show position on streets, roads, etc.
For example: 
  • I live on Karang Anyar Street.

IN
To show that something is enclosed or surrounded.              
For example:
There is a hamster in the cage.
We also use in to show position within a general area (towns, counties, states, countries, and continents).
For example:
The children enjoyed their time in Pulau Seribu.                           
BY
To show that something is next to or beside something else. 
For example:
The couple are standing by the river.
